Growing up in Kansas and Northern Oklahoma, I learned how to work cattle and horses at my grandfather’s ranch and sale barn. RQ Horsemanship is named for my grandfather Riley Quillen (RQ) who taught me everything I know. RQ gave me my first experience on a horse when I was five. He put me on “Rocky” and said, “Pull left, pull right, pull back to stop, and don’t fall off.” Then he slapped her on the haunches and down the road we went! And I was in his saddle!
As a young adult I enjoyed team penning and greatly advanced in my skills with horses.
I’ve lived in Iowa for 14 years where I live and train on a farm south of Indianola. Good horsemanship is a skill that must be learned and practiced. I want to share my decades of experience as a horseman with you so you can get the most out of your relationship with your horse.
